Day 01

Day 1

At 8:30AM / 2:30 PM meet your English-speaking local guide at the appointed location who will introduce himself and run through the tour schedule for the day. This will be followed by some basic information about the beautiful Kratie Town.

Next, everyone craps your bike and travels by a small local road follow the river bank and many local traditional houses to visit Thma Krae village. After 20 minutes ride, you will have arrived to this village. Thma Krae village is a famous for making sticky rice roasted in bamboo called Kralan in Khmer. Nhem, or fish paté, is also produced in the village. Your guide will introduce you to how they are made and how this small business enterprise helps the local people.

After visiting Thma Krae village, your next destination before the dolphin pool will be the pagoda on top of Sambok Moutain. This age-old quiet pagoda is known as a great place for people who are seeking a peaceful environment for meditation. Your local English guide will show and explain the beautiful paintings and the meanings of other sights around the pagoda.

Next you will be brought to Kampi Dolphin pool which is the biggest dolphin pool in the Mekong River where tourists can view dolphins all year long. The Mekong Irrawaddy dolphin is an endangered species and there are many conservation NGOs working to conserve them. After a 10 minute presentation by your local English speaking guide about the dolphin ecology, you will embark on a wooden boat, driven by an expert local fisherman who benefits from the dolphin conservation project. The boatman will guide the boat nearby the pool for about 1 hour for you to spot the dolphins and take pictures.

Following that, the boat man will bring you to the westside where your jouney is contunuing. On the west trail side, West Bank Trail is another route to explore by bicycle. The village is similar to the east bank trail but it is always nice to take a different route back to town of Kratie. You will pass by many villages along the way by dirty road and less traffic. The west bank trail is more remote than the east trail.

Instead of on the trail back to the town, you will be emarked on a local wooden boat crossing the river to Koh Trong island. KohTrong is an island located in the Middle of the Mekong River in Kratie Province. In order to get there, it takes 15 minutes by wooden boat shared with local people. It is the closest island to the town of Kratie and is a great place for visitors. The scenery shows the natural beauty of the Cambodian countryside including a nice view of the Mekong River and a big sandy bar (dry season) where visitors can swim. Visitors can enjoy a bicycle tour on the island and experience its special features such as; visiting a Vietnamese floating village and local pagoda, tasting the local grapefruit and a wonderful meal served by the home stay owner, and planting a tree as a contribution to the local environment.

After a few hour explore the island, you will leave the island for the town. Everyone will crap on the wooden boat once again returning back to the town and the end of the tour.
