All you need to do : Visiting Phnom Penh
You may list the Phnom Penh city as the last destination of your travel in Cambodia. Well, if it is your last few days in the kingdom, let’s rock and roll and get the most out of your trip.
First thing first, do not miss this genocide museum. This is absolutely a must bucket-list experience for you to learn about the probably the darkest era of the country or the world. You can spend your first day visiting these two museums, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The S21 museum is pretty close in the center of the city since it was a high school, which turned out to be the most notoriously brutal detention center. On the other hand, Cherng Ek genocide museum is about 30 mins to 1 hour away from the city according to the traffic.
After listening to all the stories about Khmer Rouge, you might feel, why much elder Cambodian are traumatized until today.
2. Do Mekong Island Bike Tour
We cannot tell you what the best way is to admire the beauty of Phnom Penh city than riding a bike earlier in the morning to visit a nearby Mekong Island. Starting from the center or from your hotel, you will be guided to the port of Koh Pich or Diamond Island before reaching the opposite river bank of Mekong River. The eastern side of the riverbank is descriptively underdeveloped, in which there is no high-rise building but the beauty of a local villager starting up their days. Furthermore, you also get a chance to admire the farmland of fresh organic vegetables, fruit, and visiting a silk house as well.
3. Visiting Royal Palace, National Museum, Wat Phnom
These are among the mainstream attractions to visit in Phnom Penh city, however, you must need to see these beautiful building artifacts. The Royal Palace is the residence of the Cambodian monarchy, it has a handful of beautiful buildings. One of our favorites is the Silver Pagoda, which is a temple that you can witness a whole of ancient artifacts, jewelry, and more. After this, you can visit the National Museum, which exhibits the sculpture and art pieces from thousands of years in pre-historical of Khmer people. Last but not least, Wat Phnom, this hilly well-respected local site is the birth of Phnom Penh city itself.
