The 4 most famous world heritage temple to visit in Cambodia

Cambodia has a rich history, culture, and tradition that has existed for thousands of years. These world heritage sites can be found all over the country. Visiting Cambodia is a truly magical experience, and walking through temples that are over a thousand years old, witnessing beautiful theatrical dances or shows that can be traced back to temple walls—these are just a few of the core reasons to visit this amazing land. Renowned worldwide, UNESCO has inscribed four Cambodian sites on the World Heritage List:

Angkor Wat Temple

Angkor Wat is a world heritage site of Cambodia and the national symbol of the Khmer people. It is the largest religious monument in the world and was inscribed in 1992. Preah Vihear Temple

Preah Vihear Temple is the second Cambodian temple to be inscribed on the World Heritage List, in 2008. It is built on top of the Dangrek Mountains, about four to five hours from Siem Reap province. The temple was built dedicated to Shiva, and conservation efforts are underway to preserve the quality of its architecture and carved stone.


Sambo Prey Kuk Archaeological Complex

Sambo Prei Kuk was built in the late 6th and early 7th centuries AD during the Chenla Empire, before the Angkorian era. It was inscribed as a world heritage site in 2017. The temple complex consist of thousand of small temples and it had provided a strong foundation for the later built temple. 


Koh Ker Archaeological Complex

The Koh Ker archaeological site was recently inscribed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. It is located about 120 kilometers from Siem Reap province, and its temples resemble the pyramids of Egypt. You can find various tours to witness the beautiful temples covered in lush green nature.
