Food represents and distinguishes cultures, traditions and lifestyle of one race to another. In Cambodia, not so different, each of the food brings story, togetherness and joyfulness to family and nation as the whole. They tend to mix together various spices and vegetable, which aromatically satisfies and increase your appetite. These are our top 9 Cambodian’s cuisine for you to try during your time in Cambodia.

1.      1. Fish Amok

Serving you in a special banana leaf plate, Fish Amok is one of the top most well-known food to tourist around Cambodia and the world. This traditional dish is the combination of fresh river fish and red curry paste mixing together with coconut milk, lemongrass and chilly. It is usually served with a cup of rice and some complementary vegetable.

           2.ambodian Green Curry with Beef or Chicken

To make the green curry paste, people crush and mix up various spicy ingredients including lemongrass, turmeric, galangal and fingerroot before blend it together with fermented fish paste and beef. This particular dish can use different kind of meat such as beef, chicken and river fish. Therefore, you can enjoy what type of meat you like to be in the dish.

          3. Red Curry Chicken

This red chicken curry is not spicy as its look. Again, a lot of spices are being mixed to make this curry extremely aromatic, however, it is not as spicy as Thai Curry. Many people tend to use, potatoes, eggplants, green bean, sweet potatoes as their main vegetable. Red curry chicken is one of the main dish when there is a formal event or gathering, you can eat it with fresh Khmer noodle, bread and rice.

          4. Stuffed Frog

Stuffed frog is commonly found anywhere across Cambodia from a small vendor shop to a high-end restaurant. You may find its look creepy and inedible but when you get your first bite, you will experience the salty sweetness of minced pork incredibly mixing with frog leg and ton of other ingredients.

          5. Fried Fish with Fresh Mango Salad Vinegar

You can eat this fried fish in many ways, some people enjoy it with mango vinegar and other enjoy it with tamarin chilli sauces or pickles. It depends on your preference and the availability of the sauce provided. To be frank, you can find this type of food almost every local food vendor you can possibly visit in Cambodia. There are many types of fish you can possibly find deep fried but the popular ones are catfish and snake head.

          6. Samlor Korko

Somlor Korko is the symbol of Cambodian food and probably the cuisine, which is hard to master. This dish is complexed and using the extra amount of vegetable, which are usually found locally grown. Somlor Korko is sometime called “100 ingredient Dish” since the way to cook it including the amount of spice, meat and vegetable, you may lose count. Don’t forget to try this dish when you visit Cambodia.

       7. Samlor Prorher

This unique specialty is a comfort food for many family dinners across Cambodia. However, it is not that popular among the tourist and not many restaurants put it in their menu. Samlor Prorher is a kind of soup, which makes of pumpkin, winter melon, luffa gourds and other greenery leaf. We totally recommend this dish to vegan people with a vegetable choice only. Otherwise, you will get it with pork or fish in your tasty vegie Somlor Prorher.

          8. Tirk Kroeung

The taste is incredibly fresh and sour-sweet when it comes to the dish, which is apparently called “Tirk Kroeung” in the local language. It is best served with fresh uncooked vegetable such as cucumber, lettuce and some other local grown vegetable. You may find it only at pre-cooked restaurant or a local shop around Cambodia.

           9. Stir-fried hot chilly beef or chicken

Stir-fried chilly beef is probably the spiciest choice among all other mentioned above. Though, it is spicy but it is the most popular among local and tourists. You definitely can ask for more hotter if you would like to. Moreover, you can do it with many types of meat such as beef, duck, chicken, frog, eel and more. To the local, the best time to enjoy this food is whenever there is a drinking party or relative gathering.
